We’re selling our well cared for Neve 8128 in-line recording console. Since purchasing in 2016 we have put a lot of service and upgrades in for daily use in our commercial studio.
Upgrades:
- replaced upholstery on armrest and top board.
- added direct outs on all channels that feed 1:1 balancing transformers (28 transformer balanced direct outputs)
- upgraded the internal bussing system designed by 81Series (original bussing system was pulled from the unit in working condition and will be included with the console)
- replaced the original power supplies designed by 81Series (original power supplies still work and will be included with the console)
- most channels have been fully recapped and regularly serviced professionally
- removed the original Necam automation system from the big faders (components, cables and power supply will be included with the console)
- added Neve transformers to the main stereo output
Parts Included:
- original manuals and schematics
- several backup bussing cards
- spare routing cards
- spare parts (screws, knobs, components, etc…)
- boxes of spare ribbon cables and connectors
- Ebtech 1:1 balancing transformer boxes (28 channels)
- original bussing card
- original power supplies
- original Necam automation components
With adding the direct out modification, the added upgraded bussing system and new power supply solve most of the known problematic issues and make this a great console.
The preamps sound great on this desk; they are quiet and have a ton of gain, but can be driven hard for a nice rich saturation. We currently use the console daily for front end tracking and often for summing and mixing. This is a 40+ year old vintage piece of equipment and has the typical issues of an old console, such as the occasional scratchy and intermittent pots, switches, faders, and buttons that don’t latch. All of these problems can be repaired but it is important to remember keeping a console of this age flawless is difficult and will require regular maintenance.
Console is currently decommissioned in our studio. Buyer will be responsible for all shipping/transportation costs.
Unless you or your tech is familiar with these consoles, we highly recommend hiring 81Series to setup and go over this desk in your studio.
Unfortunately we don’t know much history about this console before purchasing but in our hands it has seen a countless amount of amazing records from stoner rock, indie rock, jazz, classical, hiphop, and pop worldwide artists.
Sold As Is.”
