From the seller: “1978 MCI JH16 (transformer in/out) 2” 24 track tape machine w/ Auto-Locator II. Includes original service manual, a recently purchased MRL calibration tape, 1 lightly used reel of ATR tape and a few old used but useable reels of tape if you want them. The audio path has been fully gone through by our tech and the machine has only seen light (but regular) use the past 3 years. The sketchy old Molex connectors have all been removed and the connections have been hardwired for future-proofing, the cards have been re-capped, and it’s got a NOS dancer arm. Tape heads have good life left and been regularly cleaned and calibrated - we’ve babied it as long as we’ve had the machine. This is not sitting in your uncle’s garage since the 80s, this is in a working commercial studio where potential buyers are welcome to visit the machine in a working environment in Echo Park.

A few quirks: Auto-Locator does not locate, meter bridge is missing 2 (blue) status light bezels and the RF shield is a bit lazy coming up during FF/RW. We used this machine mainly for hitting tape on the way to ProTools and printing elements/mixes after tracking. We are selling to make space and to fund a 2-track machine that will better suit our needs.”
